IPE-TM-600 Instruments
IPE-TM-600-02
This procedure establishes the recommended guideline for selecting the vent line size, purge system restriction orifice bore diameter and purge gas rate for a vessel that floats on the relief header.
Horizontal vessel
Vent rate, scfh = (Tangent Length) * (Diameter) * (Float Length) * (0.1) * (4)
Vertical vessel
Vent rate, scfh = (cross-sectional area, ft2) * (Float Length) * (0.1) * (4)
| English Project | English Project | Metric Project | Metric Project | Metric Project | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vent Rate scfh | Vent Line inches | RO inches | Purge scfh | RO mm | Purge scfh | Purge Nm3/h |
| Up to 110 | 1 1/2 | 1/16 | 61 | 2 | 97 | 2.6 |
| 111 to 180 | 2 | 1/16 | 61 | 2 | 97 | 2.6 |
| 181 to 460 | 3 | 1/8 | 248 | 3 | 220 | 5.9 |
| 461 to 750 | 4 | 1/8 | 248 | 4 | 396 | 10.6 |

| above 1800 | 8 | 1/4 | 1012 | 6 | 900 | 24.1 |
Note: Purge gas rate is based upon nitrogen with a restriction orifice (RO) P of 11 psi (12 psig inlet, 1 psig outlet).
