| APPLICATION NOTES | ||||||
| 1. Figure numbers correspond to MSS SP-58 Table 1 (metallic) & Table 2 (non-metallic) hanger components. Load ratings are typical catalog values from Anvil/Grinnell/Bergen-Paterson; verify against mfr data. | ||||||
| 2. Temperature ratings are for the HANGER MATERIAL, not the pipe. Carbon steel hangers limited to 750F; above 750F use chromoly (F22) hanger components and PTFE/graphite slide pads. | ||||||
| 3. For thermal movement > 1/4 inch and pipe temp > 200F, use rollers (Fig 5/7/8/9) or spring hangers (Fig A/B, Type F82). See MSS SP-58 Table 3 for travel selection. | ||||||
| 4. Constant Support Hangers (CSH) are used where dead weight shift would be > 25% (e.g., reboilers, steam turbine nozzles). Variable Spring Hangers (Type B) permit 25% load variation over travel range. | ||||||
| 5. Insulation-shoe types (Fig 66) must be sized to clear insulation OD and provide moisture drip path. | ||||||
| 6. Material selection per MSS SP-58 Sec 4: CS A36/A53 for < 750F, A105 forgings for higher temp, SS 304/316 for corrosive/cryogenic, galvanized for outdoor. | ||||||
| 7. For seismic design (IBC Ch. 13), add longitudinal restraint per ASHRAE 171 / OSHPD / IBC Table 13.6-1. Seismic brackets NOT in SP-58; see MSS SP-90. |
